After months of teasing their collaboration, Britney
Spears and will.i.am finally debuted "Scream and Shout" on Ryan
Seacrest's radio show on Monday … and it's not exactly worthy of all the
hype. The four-and-a-half minute song begins with a very Black Eyed
Peas dance beat and a British female voice — there are mixed reports on
whether or not it's Spears — saying repeatedly, "When we up in the
club/all eyes on us." After 45 seconds, will.i.am appears, with the
actual Spears close behind him when she sings back-up on the chorus, "I
wanna scream and shout and let it all out" — and that's about all she
contributes. Another male voice announces, "You are rocking with
will.i.am and …" then we hear her infamous "Britney, bitch" from her
song, "Gimme More."
Of the single, from his upcoming #willpower solo album,
Britney gushed to Seacrest, "I can't sit down. I have to dance. I wanna
dance. I felt like I'm at the club." The singer, who worked with
will.i.am previously on her 2011 song "Big Fat Bass," added, "I
generally have a good time [recording with him]."
"Scream and Shout" leaked online over the weekend, prompting Spears
and will.i.am to release it officially on Monday. Their original plan
was to have the track and video come out on the same day, this Thursday,
when the video makes its debut on Spears' "The X Factor." The video
will have "uber fresh fashion," promises will.i.am, who talked about the
disappointing leak to Billboard on the red carpet at the American Music
Awards on Sunday night. "The young kids brought their game. I don't
want to say it's 'swag.' Because swag is … it's dope, but this is beyond
swag. This is swag in reverse, which is gaws."
#willpower is set to be released in early 2013 and will also
feature collaborations with Chris Brown, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and
David Guetta.
