'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' has only been with us a few days but talk has already turned to its 2016 follow-up, 'X-Men: Apocalypse.'
Simon Kinberg, whose work as a writer and producer has made him quite an important fellow in 'X-Men's' cinematic world, has now revealed several more details surrounding the impending blockbuster, not only confirming that Fox plan to have Bryan Singer direct 'Apocalypse' but that several members of the original cast will feature in the film too.
After being asked by The Daily Beast whether 'Apocalypse' would feature the younger generation of characters from 2011's 'First Class' Kinberg explained, "It will focus primarily on the 'First Class' cast, but it will certainly have some of the original cast involved, too."
He was then asked whether Bryan Singer would be back as director for 'Apocalypse', to which he declared, "That is the plan."
Of course, Singer is one of the most gifted mainstream filmmakers in Hollywood, having already left his mark on the superhero genre with 'X-Men' and 'X2', which, as Kinberg noted in the same interview, were "grounded, dramatic, really emotional and somewhat political" and helped to influence the Batman, Spider-Man and Marvel films that followed.
However he is currently embroiled in a legal battle, which could last for several months and possibly years.
'Apocalypse' is touted for a summer 2016 release, which means that work on the film should be under-way in the next few months, and as Singer looks set to have his mind on other things during this period it wouldn't be a surprise to hear that he's been replaced so that he can concentrate on the investigation against him.
Of course this would be a bitter blow to the film series because Singer has been at the heart of almost everything good about the franchise, but you would think that the court battle against him would take precedence. The path 'Apocalypse' takes should be clearer by the end of the year.
Who would you want to replace Bryan Singer if he dropped out of 'X-Men: Apocalypse'?
