ince Steven Spielberg's long-awaited passion project "Lincoln"
opens nationwide this weekend, Harper's Bazaar decided to mark the
occasion by staging young actresses in scenes depicting some of the
director's most iconic movies.
You almost have to do a double take to realize that Kiernan Shipka of "Mad Men" is posing with E.T. -- and not a young Drew Barrymore
in 1982. The image depicts the emotional scene in the 30-year-old
classic film when Gertie kisses E.T. goodbye before he waddles up to his
spaceship to return to his home planet. I dare you to watch it and not
cry.

Dakota Fanning
posed for a photo reenactment of 1977's "Close Encounters of the Third
Kind." Fanning depicts Melinda Dillon's character Jillian Guiler in a
scene just before her son Barry gets abducted by aliens.
Other actresses featured include Evan Rachel Wood and Malin Akerman. Wood depicts a scene in 1993 Spielberg film "Jurassic Park" and Akerman depicts an endangered swimmer in 1975's "Jaws."
Fun fact: Dakota Fanning is the only actress of the four who has ever
appeared in a Spielberg film. She played Rachel Ferrier, the daughter
of Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) in "War of the Worlds" (2005).
For the other three, maybe these photos count as audition material?
The issue, on newsstands November 27, features Taylor Swift on the cover.
